Check if your antminer is grounded properly

When you see all chips in the miner status had become “xxxxxx”, it might not necessarily be a hash board defect but a miner grounding issue.

Below picture is an example:

When the miners are not grounded properly, the electricity can leak from the wiring system onto the miner outer body/casing (because it's a metallic surface), causing damages to the control boards and hash boards in the long run.

Ensure voltage is below 0.3 V for longer and better shelf life of the miner. On the contrary, voltage exceeding 1 V will damage the miner.

Check the following to test if your miner is grounded:

1. This method requires that the miner is not in contact with any metal shelf.

Tune the multimeter to A/C 220 V. When the miner runs, place the multimeter's test lead onto the aluminum body/casing of the miner and the exposed part of the metal shelf.

  • Having voltage present signifies that the grounding is not done or proper; immediate action is required.
  • If there is no voltage detected, it means that the grounding is normal and there is no leakage.

2. This method requires that the metal frame the Ethernet port (of the miner) is not in contact with the miner's control board panel.

Tune the multimeter to A/C 220 V. When the miner runs, place the multimeter's test leads on the aluminum body/casing of the miner and the metal frame of the Ethernet port (see photo below).

  • Having voltage present signifies that the grounding is not done or proper; immediate action is required.
  • If there is no voltage detected, it means that the grounding is normal and there is no leakage.
